The Senior Mechanical Designer uses CAD software to prepare 3D models and engineering drawings consisting of floor plans, assembly details, isometrics, flow schematics, equipment schedules, etc. based on engineering design information. Designers work closely with the engineers and other discipline designers to ensure design is coordinated.
Designers are also responsible for ensuring that the project design basis is met and for complying with required tolerances and specifications, compiling equipment and other data to perform dimensional and routine calculations related to preparing design drawings, and are able to read orthographic, isometric, and vendor designs and incorporate them into the overall model for the project.
Parsons makes frequent use of REVIT software (versions 2018 and newer) to produce 3D building designs and for BIM. Successful designers at Parsons are able to:
- Set up a mechanical model linked to an Architectural model;
- Create or modify families provided by equipment vendors for use in the project model;
- Create and modify smart schedules within REVIT;
Applicants for this position should have good experience with the recent versions of REVIT (2018 and later), and HVAC design experience (placing equipment, modelling ductwork, placing air diffusers and terminals, creating systems). Experience with designing plumbing systems is strongly preferred. Applicants should have a demonstrated background of working independently as well as a demonstrated ability to coordinate with architecture and other engineering disciplines to produce consistent, constructable, and innovative designs.
Two (2) year technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter course (or equivalent) is required, along with 6+ experience in HVAC and plumbing design.
