Job Summary:

  • The Technical Manager is responsible for the end-to-end strategic and operational management of the Diamond Processing Plant. This dual-focus role requires overseeing the metallurgical process to maximize diamond recovery while ensuring all mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering assets are maintained to the highest standards. You will lead a multidisciplinary team to achieve production targets safely, within budget, and at optimal efficiency.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Direct the operation of the processing plant, including Crushing & Scrubbing, Dense Medium Separation (DMS), and X-Ray Recovery/Final Recovery.
  • Continuously monitor and optimize metallurgical performance to ensure maximum recovery and minimal diamond breakage.
  • Manage water recovery and tailings treatment facilities to ensure environmental compliance and resource efficiency.
  • Oversee all maintenance activities (preventative, predictive, and corrective) for plant equipment.
  • Manage the engineering workshop and spare parts inventory to minimize downtime.
  • Lead the planning and execution of plant shutdowns and capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Process Engineers, Mechanical/Electrical Technicians, and Plant Operators.
  • Foster a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure rigorous adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) protocols and "Zero Harm" policies.
  • Develop and manage the annual operational budget (OPEX) and production forecasts.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and technological upgrades to futureproof
    the plant operations.

     
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mineral Processing, Extractive Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • A master’s degree or MBA is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10–15 years in mineral processing, with at least 5 years in a senior management role specifically within a Diamond Processing Plant.
  • In-depth knowledge of DMS (Dense Medium Separation) circuits and cyclone optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with diamond recovery technology (e.g., BOUROVESTNIK, TOMRA, or Flowsort X-ray machines).
  • Experience with PLC/SCADA systems and automated plant control.
  • Professional Engineering registration (e.g., ECSA, Pr.Eng) is highly desirable.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to balance immediate production needs with long-term asset integrity.
  • Rapidly diagnosing technical bottlenecks in a high-pressure environment.
