About the Opportunity
We are an international consulting firm specializing in the mining industry, with a global footprint spanning multiple continents and a strong multidisciplinary team of technical experts. Our Canadian groundwater group comprises experienced hydrogeologists with expertise in physical and chemical hydrogeology and numerical modeling, supported by a broader North American and global hydrogeology network.
We are seeking an Intermediate Hydrogeologist to join our growing hydrogeology team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams and contribute to a wide range of mining-related environmental and engineering projects across all stages of the mine life cycle.
Key Responsibilities
The Intermediate Hydrogeologist will be involved in both field-based and office-based activities, including but not limited to:
- Planning and executing hydrogeological field programs
- Drill program supervision
- Installation, operation, and monitoring of deep groundwater instrumentation (>250 m), including vibrating wire piezometers and packer-isolated systems
- Aquifer testing, database management, data analysis, and interpretation
- Development of hydrogeological conceptual models
- Preparation of technical reports and deliverables
Projects may include greenfield or brownfield sites, ranging from exploration through operations and mine closure, with a focus on environmental and/or engineering components.
Technical Focus Areas
Specific tasks may include:
- Interpretation of hydrogeological field data and conceptual model development, in coordination with geochemists, structural geologists, and geotechnical engineers
- Providing inputs to water balance and load balance models
- Estimation of open pit and underground mine inflows
- Evaluation of groundwater control and remediation options
- Contribution to engineering design processes
- Interpretation of monitoring data from constructed remediation systems
Experience with bedrock characterization for open pit and underground mines, packer testing, deep piezometer installations, and related techniques is highly desirable.
Collaboration & Professional Development
The role involves close collaboration with hydrogeology and multidisciplinary team members ranging from junior to principal consultants. The successful candidate will assist with task coordination, mentoring junior staff, meeting project schedules, and preparing reports and presentations for both internal and external audiences.
This position offers significant opportunity to work alongside industry experts and to develop a long-term consulting career within a technically strong and supportive environment.
Essential Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in geology, geological or civil engineering, or physical geography
- Emphasis on hydrogeology, hydrology, environmental engineering, geology, or geotechnical disciplines
- Master’s degree or post-baccalaureate coursework is preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (mining industry experience is an asset)
- Experience installing and operating deep groundwater instrumentation (>250 m)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in the field for extended periods in variable weather conditions
- Comfortable working both independently and within multidisciplinary teams
- Willingness to travel locally, nationally, and potentially internationally
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
