Position: Testing Lab Associate
Location: Charleston, SC
Employment Type: Full-time/Direct Hire
Salary: $45,000-$55,000 DOE

Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Testing Lab Associate to join our Research & Development (R&D) team. This hands-on role supports the testing and evaluation of coatings and materials, accurate documentation of results, and the development of new and improved products. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and eager to contribute to innovation in a collaborative laboratory environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform standardized and customized laboratory tests on coatings and related materials, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established procedures.

  • Accurately record test data, maintain detailed logs, and prepare clear, organized test reports.

  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory testing equipment in accordance with safety and quality standards.

  • Support quality monitoring efforts for products, materials, and processes during testing activities.

  • Collaborate closely with R&D engineers, chemists, and cross-functional team members to support product development and improvement initiatives.

  • Identify opportunities to improve existing testing methods, materials, or processes and provide recommendations based on test results and observations.

  • Follow all safety protocols when handling chemicals, equipment, and materials to ensure a safe working environment.

  • Assist with the setup, execution, and documentation of experimental protocols and validation testing.

  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Demonstrate flexibility by assisting with additional duties as needed to support departmental and company objectives.


Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree or certification in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field preferred.

  • Previous experience in a laboratory, testing, manufacturing, or industrial environment is preferred but not required.

  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in testing and documentation.

  • Basic knowledge of chemical properties and laboratory safety practices.

  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and software for data collection and analysis.

  • Experience with SAP software is a plus.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Strong time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting while maintaining a positive, professional attitude and customer-focused mindset.


Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

  • Ability to safely perform essential job functions in compliance with ADA, FMLA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Regular, punctual attendance required.

  • Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and carrying.

  • Exposure to fumes and hazardous chemicals in a laboratory environment.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to ## pounds.

  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per day.

  • Must be able to communicate clearly in person and via telephone.
