What is an Electrical Designer?

An Electrical Engineer typically holds a four-year degree and focuses on the theoretical and analytical aspects of electrical systems, including complex calculations and research. An Electrical Designer, while also highly skilled, focuses more on the practical application and layout of those systems. They produce the detailed drawings and schematics used for construction and installation, often working directly from the engineer's specifications. In many firms, the roles are distinct but collaborative, with engineers handling the high-level design and designers creating the detailed drawings.

BIM stands for Building Information Modeling. It's a process of creating and managing a digital 3D model of a building that includes not just the geometry but also data about the building's components. For Electrical Designers, BIM is crucial because it allows them to visualize and coordinate their electrical systems with other disciplines (like HVAC and plumbing) in a shared model. This helps prevent clashes and errors before construction begins, making the design process more efficient and accurate.
