Bypass Pump Operator

Position Summary
The Bypass Pump Operator is responsible for monitoring, fueling, inspecting, repairing, testing, and maintaining bypass pumping equipment. This includes being on duty to guarantee the operation of the bypass pumping system. This is a fulltime position that requires municipal field work.

The Bypass Pumping Operator reports to the Bypass Pumping Supervisor.

Position Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Primary responsibilities include the following:
• Monitor pumping system to assure pumps are fueled and running as required.
• Inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair a variety of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps along with other fluid process equipment.
• Assemble units according to manufacturer specifications.
• Perform preventive/predictive maintenance procedures on pumping equipment.
• Test repaired equipment components. 
• Perform work in the field with the use of company vehicles.
• Responsible for ensuring duties are performed in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.

• Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED. Two years of municipal sewer experience is preferred. Pumps, Hydraulic and Mechanical experience is a plus. Must be willing to work a 12-hour shifts (days or nights).
• Language Skills: Ability to read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures or manuals.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Reasoning Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists and interpret various instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

• Physical Demands: In the performance of duties for this position, the employee is: regularly required to sit, talk, and hear; frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects. This position involves frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, standing, walking, and reaching, regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (occasionally up to 75 pounds). Vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, peripheral, and color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability for extended concentration.
• Work Environment: In performing the duties for this job, the employee will generally be required to work in outside weather conditions (occasionally near job sites with moving vehicles and mechanical operations). Will be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level is usually moderate.
