Construction Planner (Associate Project Controls Specialist)
We currently seek a high caliber Construction Planner for a long-term basis within our client’s team of experienced professionals. Based in Los Angeles, CA
Summary & Scope
This position conducts work directly related to management or general business operations in an organization or functional area. The work requires advanced knowledge gained from a prolonged course of specialized instruction, experience, and expertise. The position includes work requiring the consistent exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance. This position performs Project Control activities and assists in the preparation of Project Controls activities for a project or assignment. This role serves as lead cost or schedule on small-sized projects and coordinates work of lower-level Project Controls Specialists, Technicians, and Clerks.
Principal Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in generating, checking, and analyzing data to ensure accuracy; maintain orderly records to provide audit trail data
- Use the Work Breakdown and Project Coding Structures to ensure that data are entered correctly into the Project Controls systems in a consistent manner
- Develop cost reports format as required by internal or client requirements
- Assist with preparation of historical information
- Participate in internal and external audits
- Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
- Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines
- Prepare and update weekly work plans
- Assist in the preparation of specialty schedules, the project labor forecast, cash flows, Project Income Statements and performs profit recognition activities
- Analyze current schedule/cost trends and identify potential problem areas
- Plan and organize own work assignments, as well as carry out tasks from management staff
- Maintain compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and global standards
- Adhere to and support client’s Health, Safety & Environmental and Sustainability Policies
- Assist with the review of Project Profit/Risk Analysis with management and provide status reporting
- Assist in the change management process
- Effectively develop and apply the Core Skills to the job
- May need to travel to attend to business related matters
- Meet expectations on attendance and punctuality
- Other duties as assigned
Typical Minimum Qualifications - Related Education, Experience & Skills
- Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and two (2) years* of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to six (6) years* if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements.
- Experience in either:
- Construction manager or engineer in projects with buildings and/or heavy civil construction
- Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
- Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
- Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
- Scheduler or planner in projects with buildings and/or heavy civil construction
- Knowledge of utilizing P6 resources and quantities; importing P6 activities in to Excel formats for weekly look ahead schedules; concrete or road construction; and / or rail station construction.
- Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
Preferred Qualifications - Related Education, Experience & Skills
- Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent technical degree or non-technical degree with business and computer software courses.
- 5 or more years of Project Controls experience preferred
- Understand the fundamentals of engineering models and construction drawings
- Understand fundamental concepts of Estimating
- Proficiency in the use of automated cost or schedule management systems
- Possess strong personal computer skills
- May needs to travel internationally for project assignments and in support of business related matters
Working Conditions
- Generally favorable indoor office workspace, and/or;
- Various levels of environmental conditions including but not limited to project worksites and vendor/client facilities which may have temporary office space, moving mechanical parts and vibration; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and extreme temperatures and high noise levels
