Electronic Engineering Manager

Location: Richmond, BC 

Overview

Our client, a leading organization in the marine and consumer electronics space, is seeking an experienced Electronic Engineering Manager to join their growing team. This role will provide technical leadership, drive product innovation, and mentor a high-performing engineering team while supporting new product development and continuous improvement initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Review and evaluate design solutions to ensure alignment with cost, performance, and functional targets
  • Provide technical guidance and direction for product development and design solutions
  • Approve and review design validation plans for new products
  • Represent the electrical engineering team in cross-functional program teams (product management, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, etc.)
  • Identify market opportunities, research technical solutions, and support cost and timeline estimation

Electrical Design Process

  • Champion best practices and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Establish and maintain standards for Altium Designer (or equivalent ECAD tools), including library management and design guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with internal Quality Management Systems

Program Management

  • Track project progress, monitor milestones, and ensure commitments are met
  • Collaborate with electronic contract manufacturers on schedules, technical challenges, and product roadmaps

Resource & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the electrical engineering team
  • Promote professional growth, cross-training, and knowledge sharing
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support career development plans
  • Manage lab resources and equipment; develop business cases for new tools and infrastructure
  • Support global facilities with electronic design and testing practices as needed
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Perform additional duties as required (up to 15%)

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of electronic design experience
  • 3+ years of leadership or people management experience
  • Proven experience in consumer product design and new product development (automotive or safety-critical systems preferred)
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders and vendors


Technical Expertise

  • Proficiency in Altium Designer or similar ECAD tools
  • Solid understanding of PCB design, fabrication, and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of EMC compliance and testing (simulation experience is an asset)
  • Familiarity with lithium batteries, charging systems, and battery management systems
  • Experience with QFD, Design & Process FMEA
  • Knowledge of industry standards (SAE, ISO, ISO9001)
