The Role:

The Health, Safety and Security (HSS) Manager provides strategic leadership and oversight of HSS across the project. The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of HSS systems, risk controls, and cultural programs to enable safe, compliant, and high-performance project delivery. The HSS Manager will ensures integration of HSS into engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations readiness.

Accountabilities:

  • Own and facilitate the Construction Risk Assessment Workshop (CRAW) and supporting processes.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables comply with HSS requirements and safety in design principles.
  • Identify, assess, and manage health and safety risks across all project phases using BHP’s risk framework.
  • Provide specialist expertise and coaching on safety risk management, health programs, and environmental controls.
  • Design and implement safety, health, and environmental systems, processes, and improvement strategies.
  • Monitor and report HSS performance indicators, trends, and compliance outcomes.
  • Champion a strong safety culture and embed inclusive behaviours across the IPT and contractor workforce.
  • Facilitate regulatory environmental approvals and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Lead incident response, emergency preparedness, and injury management processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, commissioning, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of HSS requirements.
