Role Overview
The Lead Project Engineer role is responsible for leading the technical execution of engineering projects within a defined region, project, or study. This individual will ensure alignment with project objectives, engineering standards, and delivery milestones while providing technical leadership, coordination, and oversight across multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical execution of engineering scopes in accordance with project specifications, standards, and safety requirements
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to engineering team members, including contractors and external partners
- Coordinate engineering activities with construction, project controls, procurement/contracts, and operations teams
- Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and technical documentation for accuracy and compliance
- Facilitate or lead design reviews, technical risk assessments, and workshops with contractors, consultants, and vendors
- Manage engineering scope, schedules, resources, and budgets to support successful project delivery
- Identify, assess, and mitigate engineering and project risks throughout execution
- Prepare technical reports and documentation for internal stakeholders and regulatory authorities
- Support site‑based work and field execution on a fly‑in / fly‑out basis, as required by project needs
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or related discipline)
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada or actively working toward accreditation
- 10+ years of experience delivering large‑scale capital projects (multi‑$100M), preferably in mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial environments
- Proven experience as an owner’s representative, project engineer, discipline lead, or engineering manager
- Strong understanding of project engineering best practices, quality assurance, risk management, and contract administration
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and influence stakeholders across functions and partners
- Experience working in remote or site‑based project environments is an asset
