Location: Laurens, SC
Industry: Metals Manufacturing/Machining
Status of Hire: full-time, direct hire, non-exempt
Compensation: $22/hr-$25/hr
Hours: 1st shift – 6:00am-2:30pm
Reports to: Tube Mill Production Manager/Mill Supervisor
Summary: The Bundler Operator will report directly to the Mill Supervisor. This role is instrumental in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our crane systems, contributing to uptime, product quality, and overall mill performance.
Job Duties:
- Takes direction from and Reviews Mill schedule with Mill Operator
- Receive verbal and/or written instructions from team leaders/mill managers.
- Sets up automated packaging to match mill schedule (bundle configuration and count)
- Manages partial bundles at end-of-order
- Tags bundles as they accumulate on the discharge conveyor (before removal)
- Turns in tags to Mill Operator at the end of the shift
- Keeps auto-bander fed with banding
- Alerts Mill Operator of any difficulties with machinery
- Work safely following Haz Com & workplace safety practices as outlined by Custom Steel Supply policy & OSHA.
- Work from rolling schedules to ensure proper processing of material per specifications.
- Perform quality checks on all metrics to ensure product compliance with specifications.
- Assist in mill changeovers as needed.
- Complete all required operating reports and quality reports.
- Support other operators during breakdowns, bottlenecks, and scheduled downtime.
- Report any irregularities or malfunctions to managers or maintenance.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and equipment.
- Works closely with both Mill Crane Operator, Cut-Off Operator, End Welder, and the Multi-craft Technician to monitor the entirety of the production process.
- Cross-Train to a full working understanding and knowledge of all positions as to be able to contribute as needed.
- Operate overhead and Dual Trolley cranes to support tube mill operations as needed.
- Follow verbal and/or written instructions and comply with safety protocols and PPE requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- 2+ years of experience in a steel manufacturing facility.
- Leadership experience preferred but not required.
- Direct, hands-on experience in tube mill operations and its related equipment.
- Experience in tube mill manufacturing preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions, utilize basic computer skills, and perform basic math.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Visual acuity for reading and recording numerical data.
- Proven experience, with the ability to act proactively in achieving performance goals.
- Strong technical knowledge of tube mill processes, equipment, and materials.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent leadership and teamwork ability to lead and train others.
- Solid understanding of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Operation of various machinery and equipment, including hand tools, overhead cranes, forklifts, heavy machinery, welding, and cutting equipment.
- The physical demands include the ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.), stand for extended periods, bend, kneel, and work in various environmental conditions.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements include eye protection, hearing protection, foot protection, and various other types of protections as recommended.
- Must be able to stand and walk for up to 6-8 hours per day or for extended periods to cover shift needs.
- Flexibility to bend, twist, stoop, sit, kneel, crawl, push, and pull, with the capability to reach in all directions.

**Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and physical to be eligible for hire (physical will include respirator fitting)
