We are currently seeking a high caliber Payroll Manager for a long-term basis within our client’s team of experienced professionals. Based in Long Beach, CA.
The Payroll Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll. This position is responsible for overseeing all payroll functions, including payroll calculations, reporting, compliance, and coordination with other departments to ensure seamless operations. The Payroll Manager will also serve as the main point of contact for payroll-related inquiries, providing excellent service and resolving any issues promptly. This role contributes significantly to maintaining employee satisfaction, compliance with regulations, and the overall efficiency of the company’s operations.
Job Requirements
- Ensuring accurate and timely payroll process for approximately 1000+ employees, including both union and non-union personnel, in accordance with company policies and state/federal regulations
- Oversee end-to-end processing of weekly and bi-weekly payroll including disbursements, wages, benefits, garnishments, and tax deductions
- Ensuring payroll compliance with applicable tax laws, wage & hour laws, and labor agreements.
- Reconcile payroll-related tax payments, ensuring timely submission and compliance for multi-states
- Processing of quarterly/year-end tax reports/filing including W-2s
- Prepare and assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary reports and documentation as needed, i.e. CPAs, Worker’s Comp, Union contract requirements

- Always interacts and cooperates with all customers, company employees and company managers in a professional manner.
Qualifications:
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and an expert in Excel.
- Strong understanding of accounting practices, payroll and employment taxes laws, prevailing wage, certified payroll, union payroll, CBAs, and garnishments.
- Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Provide strong and credible leadership to staff, setting a unified direction for the team and ensuring priorities are clear at all times.
- Train, develop and motivate the team in skills, internal control methodologies, payroll knowledge, teamwork, and time management.
- Excellent math, analytical, and data entry skills, ability to communicate clearly, and works well with others.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma, or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field preferred.
- 7 years of payroll experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
- Experience managing payroll in multiple ERP systems (payroll integration experience a plus)
- Previous experience using Dayforce (Ceridian) for payroll processing and reporting.
- Understanding of multi-state, construction industry, trade union, & non-union payroll requirements
- Proficient in MS 365 suite
- Keen attention to detail & accuracy
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and handle high-pressure situations
