Pipe Stress Engineer
We currently seek high caliber Mechanical Pipe Stress Engineer for a long-term basis within our client’s team of experienced professionals. Based in Long Beach, CA.

Job Requirements
• Perform stress analysis of piping systems using Caesar II software to qualify piping in accordance with ASME codes, project standard and project specifications
• Evaluate calculated stress results, displacements, and pipe support loads; monitor and control manpower and expenditures for assigned projects within budget limits;
• Assist the supervisor in developing procedures and standards; assist the supervisor in proposal efforts; set engineering work priorities for assigned projects;
• Develop and check detailed calculations as assigned;
• Develop and prepare project technical specifications and requisitions;
• Review and approve project drawings; maintain communication with the project team, the client, and the field;
• Assist assigned engineers and designers in the resolution of technical engineering and design problems;
• Attend staff, client and vendor meetings; and implement quality and training programs.



Qualifications:
• A B.S. or M.S. Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering with a Professional Engineer's License preferred.
• A sound theoretical background in strength of materials, engineering mechanics, theory of elasticity and thin plates, advanced mathematics (including matrix algebra), and design of structures.
• Knowledge of the appropriate industry requirements, Codes and Standards, including the ASME Piping Codes: B31.1 and B31.3; ASME BP&V Codes Section I and Section VIII; AISC; API; SEI/ASCE 7; UBC; IBC; WRC 107 and 297, National Building Code of Canada, etc.
• Minimum of 5-10 years responsible experience in piping stress analysis and related structural design and analysis work on petro-chemical plants at a wide range of design conditions and materials. Experience in assessing thermal and dead-weight effects as well as other project site mandated requirements on complex piping configurations, including the use of simplified methods and more detailed and precise evaluations.
• Knowledge in two-phase flow conditions, vibration, relief valve openings, seismic, snow and wind effect analyses.
• Experience in the use of the latest Windows version of the Mathcad, Caesar II and SmartPlant Review piping software programs.
• Knowledge in the use of other available computer programs as an effective analytical tool to efficiently reduce complex design and analytical problems into workable configurations.
• Knowledge of refractory lined pipes and their characteristics and properties.
• Knowledge of pipe restraint design for large diameter piping systems.
• Able to communicate effectively, work independently and decisive in engineering analytical matters.
