Overview
We have an exciting contract opportunity to join our global EPC client as a Senior Instrumentation & Control Systems Engineer.
Responsibilities
• Perform, review, and audit control systems sizing calculations for control valves, relief valves, flow elements, thermowells, and other instrumentation.
• Create and maintain instrument indexes and datasheets; generate reports and oversee wiring and loop development within Hexagon Smart® Instrumentation databases.
• Develop complex control system narrative specifications.
• Prepare detailed instrument design and installation requirements.
• Develop advanced control systems, including cause and effect diagrams and logic diagrams, as required by project scope.
• Represent control systems during 3D model reviews and interdisciplinary design reviews.
• Monitor and review 3D models prepared by the design team using model review software.
• Develop specifications for Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), including both hardware and software components.
• Oversee DCS/PLC/SIS design development carried out by the design team.
• Apply advanced expertise in instrumentation specification, control system procurement, and integration.
• Review and interpret Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), identifying and resolving control system representation issues.
• Develop and implement control strategies and ensure accurate representation within P&IDs.
Qualifications
• Accredited four (4) year degree in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent experience (minimum 10 years with degree or 14 years combined education and experience if non-degreed).
• Strong ability to communicate effectively with teams, management, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Demonstrated technical knowledge required to perform advanced instrumentation and control engineering tasks.
• Ability to learn and apply applicable local, provincial/state, and federal regulations and standards.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to work efficiently in time-sensitive environments.
• Membership in a recognized technical or professional society is preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of discipline-specific codes, standards, and material selection, including commercial availability and cost considerations.
• Experience with effort-hour estimating, staff forecasting, and project resource planning.
• Proven ability to manage and lead large-scale projects, including project setup, scheduling, progress reporting, and close-out.
• Practical field experience supporting installation, commissioning, or operations.
• Proficiency in standard computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and presentation software.
