Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Creating initial design concepts that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, including space planning and color schemes.
- Using computer-aided design (CAD) software to produce detailed drawings and 3D models to visualize design plans.
- Choosing and specifying furnishings, fixtures, equipment, and materials, and coordinating with vendors and suppliers for procurement.
- Overseeing project timelines and coordinating with contractors, architects, and other professionals to ensure design elements are executed accurately and on schedule.
- Monitoring the progress of projects through site visits to ensure construction and installation align with design specifications.
- Preparing and managing budgets for interior design projects, including estimates for design hours, furnishings, and materials.
- Providing expert guidance on building codes, regulations, and accessibility standards to ensure compliance in design projects.
- Offering guidance on design techniques, project management, and client relations to foster the professional growth of junior designers.
Requirements
- Certified Interior Design program completion, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 8+ years with a Canadian architectural or interior design firm.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and SketchUp; Revit and Enscape are assets.
- Asset: Experience in multi-family residential, office space planning, and commercial tenant improvements.
- Skilled in preparing drawing packages from concept to IFC.
- Experience in hospitality, hotel, or restaurant projects.
- Effective communication and coordination with project teams and clients.
- Proficient in interior design and millwork details.
- Experience in documentation, consultant coordination, and building permit applications.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills; ability to work independently and in teams.
