Location: Augusta, GA
Status of Hire: full-time, direct hire, salaried plus bonus
Industry: complex processing, industrial manufacturing
Pay: $100-120k plus up to 10% annual performance based bonus (eligible)
Summary:
The Senior Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting and managing the site’s environmental, health, and safety programs. This position ensures compliance with applicable regulations, fosters a culture of safety, and continuously improves health and safety performance across the organization. The Senior Safety Specialist will oversee risk assessments, incident investigations, training programs, emergency preparedness, and compliance monitoring, while serving as a key resource for employees.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify hazards; support departments in implementing and evaluating control measures
- Deliver safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors to ensure awareness of regulations, standards, and safe work practices
- Support the administration of the incident reporting and management system, ensuring accurate documentation of accidents, near misses, and other HSE events
- Participate in workplace incident investigations, assist in root cause analysis, and help implement corrective and preventive actions
- Collect and analyze safety data to identify trends and prepare reports for management review
- Maintain compliance documentation, safety records, and reporting requirements as directed
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to support compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations
- Assist in the development and execution of emergency preparedness activities, including evacuation drills and coordination with internal stakeholders
- Partner with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement initiatives and the implementation of EHS best practices
- Serve as a technical resource and provide guidance to employees on safety-related matters
- Promote a culture of safety awareness through ongoing communication, employee engagement, and day-to-day support
- Assist in the review and communication of EHS policies and procedures, ensuring they are understood and followed across the organization
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or a related field preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety management or a related field
- Demonstrated success in developing, implementing, and overseeing EHS programs in a manufacturing, industrial, or comparable environment
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant local, state, and federal compliance requirements
- Proven expertise in risk assessment, compliance monitoring, audits, and incident investigation
- Experience with emergency preparedness planning, drills, and coordination with external agencies
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret EHS data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels
- Experience within the metals or chemical industries is preferred but not required
- Must be willing and physically able to observe and walk in a smelter environment
- Must be willing and physically able to work in varying cold and heat situations
- Could have times that are prolonged periods of walking, standing, and bending
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
- Ability to travel throughout the facility as required to conduct audits and make observations
- Must wear all required PPE when in protected areas
- Required to reach and grasp with hands and reach with arms
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Willing and physically able to travel domestically and/or internationally if requested
