The South Flank Project is being executed by a fully Integrated Project Team (IPT), jointly established by BHP and Fluor, consisting of employees from both organisations as well as other contracting organisations as applicable. The BHP Charter Values will underpin the success of the IPT and South Flank Project, creating a culture which promotes trust, team engagement and productivity.
The project has an exciting opportunity for an experienced SMP Superintendent, to work as part of the Integrated Project Team on site.
Position specific responsibilities and requirements:
The Superintendent will be imbedded in the owner's construction team reporting to the SMPE&I Area Package Manager. Responsibilities include managing the construction contractor's activities on site including technical, commercial, risk, schedule and quality.
Specific duties include:
• Participation in the site safety initiatives and procedures and embracing the project safety culture.
• Leads, coaches and mentors team members to ensure delivery against performance targets.
• Monitoring contractor reporting compliance.
• Review and monitor contractor's quality activities. Liaise with site QA representative regarding quality audits and assistance to validate contractor's compliance.
• Monitor contractor's progress and performance against contract scope, cost and schedule.
• Liaison with heavy lift, heavy haul and permit coordinators.
• Monitor and report status contractor's receipting, storage, logistics and cataloguing. Review and coordination of dilapidation reports and fabrication punch lists. Responsible for
coordinating implementation of any remediation.
• Monitor and review risk register development and implementation of mitigations.
• Review and authorisation of construction permits.
• Review and approval of the contractor's work packaging and detailed planning.
• Liaise with the Shutdown Coordinator regarding progress, planning and reporting shutdown status, preparation and execution.
• Liaise with Superintendents from other areas re milestone interfaces.
• Coordination of all construction verification, punch list and handover activities.
Position required competencies and skills:
• Solid and validated experience working as a superintendent on major SMP projects.
• Industry experience focusing on structural, mechanical and piping area with good knowledge of electrical and instrumentation discipline.
• Demonstrated ability in coordinating and planning.
• Experience in a similar position based in the Pilbara
• Excellent people management and leadership skills.
• Strong written skills and competency with Microsoft Office Suite. (Word, Excel etc.)
• Professional presentation and ability to represent the project at a high standard when interfacing with stakeholders
• Demonstrated knowledge of workplace safety implementation and activities.
• Ability to make decisions based on identifying and understanding issues, problems and opportunities.
• Ability to delegate and take responsibility to ensure that work is completed safely, efficiently and maximises project and individuals' effectiveness.
• Knowledge of systems, situations, pressures, and culture inside the project to have the ability to identify the potential problems and opportunities.
Position required qualifications:
• Trade or engineering qualification

• 10+ years heavy industry project/construction execution experience
