Overview
The Buyer is a key member of the Supply Chain team, responsible for executing procurement activities for materials and equipment in support of complex projects from pre-award through closeout.
Responsibilities
- Execute purchasing activities for engineered equipment and bulk materials in accordance with project requirements and material management plans
- Prepare bid packages, manage bidder communications and clarification meetings and administer quotation timelines
- Conduct commercial bid evaluations evaluating pricing, terms, delivery, compliance and risk
- Issue purchase orders and manage them through the full lifecycle, including change orders, price adjustments and supplier exceptions
- Effectively negotiate and recommend resolution to terms and conditions exceptions
- Negotiated and resolution final resolution to any claim related items regarding material
- Validate supplier invoices and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Provide guidance and informal support to junior supply chain team members as required
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Construction, Logistics, and other project stakeholders
- Plan and organize own work assignments, as well as carry out tasks from management staff
- Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines
- Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
- Adhere to and support Client’s Health, Safety & Environmental and Sustainability Policies
- May need to travel to attend to business related matters
- Meet expectations on attendance and punctuality
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent applicable field of study and six (6) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to ten (10) years if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders
- Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
- Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
- Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
- Ability to communicate fluently in English (read, write and speak)
- Working toward applicable professional certification(s) or license(s)
- Experience should be primarily in the area of material management
- Excellent computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, and electronic presentation programs
