Location: Fountain, Inn SC
Industry: automotive manufacturing, metal stamping
Pay: $75-95k depending on experience
Shift: Mon-Fri 7a-4p with 1 hour lunch
Job Description:
The Technical Engineer – Production is responsible for supporting daily manufacturing operations, optimizing production processes, improving equipment performance, and ensuring product quality. This role works closely with production teams, maintenance, quality, and engineering to drive continuous improvement while maintaining compliance with environmental standards. Experience with stamping presses and tooling is essential.
Key Responsibilities
• Monitor and support daily production activities to ensure smooth, efficient operations
• Troubleshoot equipment, stamping press, and tooling issues in real time to minimize downtime
• Provide technical support for die performance, tooling wear, material flow, and press parameter optimization
• Develop and implement improvements to processes, tooling, dies, and equipment
• Maintain production documentation, work instructions, and technical standards
• Collaborate with operators and supervisors to resolve technical issues quickly and effectively
Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement
• Analyze production data to identify inefficiencies and root causes of issues
• Lead CI initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies
• Support cost reduction efforts through process refinement, cycle-time reductions, and waste elimination
• Drive standardization of processes across shifts and departments
Quality & Technical Compliance
• Ensure production processes meet all quality requirements and specifications
• Support investigations related to nonconformances, customer complaints, and internal defect trends
• Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent recurrence
• Coordinate with Quality Engineering on testing, validation, and qualification activities
Equipment, Tooling & Press Systems
• Support preventive and predictive maintenance planning with Maintenance teams
• Identify and communicate equipment performance gaps or improvement needs
• Assist in installation, commissioning, and training for new equipment or stamping press systems
• Ensure tooling and dies meet production requirements and support ongoing tooling improvements
• Maintain basic compliance with core safety requirements such as PPE use and machine guarding, and report major hazards to EHS leadership
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
• 5–7 years of experience in an automotive manufacturing environment optimizing metal stamping processes, press maintenance and operation, dies, and tooling (setup, troubleshooting, optimization) required
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; root cause analysis experience required
• Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar CI methodologies
• Familiarity with environmental regulations and manufacturing compliance practices
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on production environment
