Overview

The AWP Facilitator – E&I plays a critical role in supporting the successful implementation of Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) and Workface Planning (WFP) processes on a major industrial project. This position provides both technical expertise and coordination leadership to ensure work packaging aligns with project execution strategies, schedules, and safety standards.

Working closely with construction, engineering, procurement, and contractor teams, the AWP Facilitator will help drive efficient planning, material readiness, and execution of Installation Work Packages (IWPs) across the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

 
Safety & Compliance
  • Champion and uphold a strong safety culture across all project activities.
  • Actively participate in hazard identification and collaborate with HSE teams to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Lead by example in supporting both company and client safety programs and standards.

AWP/WFP Coordination & Execution
  • Collaborate with the AWP Lead to ensure consistent application of AWP/WFP standards and procedures across the project.
  • Promote Workface Planning principles and support workforce adoption.
  • Coordinate planning, sequencing, and work packaging activities in alignment with the Path of Construction and project schedule.

Work Package Management
  • Support the development, coordination, and execution of Installation Work Packages (IWPs).
  • Provide oversight and mentorship to contractor Workface Planners to ensure IWPs meet quality and execution standards.
  • Conduct regular audits of IWPs and lead weekly review sessions to address deficiencies and ensure timely resolution.
  • Facilitate IWP constraint review meetings and collaborate with stakeholders to remove barriers to execution.
  • Oversee tracking, reporting, and closeout of IWPs to ensure accurate project progress reporting.

Material & Data Coordination
  • Coordinate material allocation and readiness to support scheduled work packages.
  • Work closely with field material management teams to resolve material constraints.
  • Verify the accuracy and availability of engineering, procurement, and construction data required for work packaging.
  • Ensure alignment between AWP processes and data management systems, including collaboration with Construction Automation and Project Controls teams.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Liaise with engineering, procurement, construction, and third-party stakeholders to ensure seamless information flow.
  • Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support related to construction execution and fabrication.
  • Support RFI responses and construction inquiries as required.

Training & Continuous Improvement
  • Support and facilitate AWP/WFP training initiatives, including contractor onboarding and tool demonstrations.
  • Promote continuous improvement through mentorship, coaching, and best practice sharing across teams.

Qualifications
 
  • Journeyman certification or technical diploma in Electrical or Instrumentation (preferred).
  • 3–5 years of experience in industrial construction projects.
  • At least 3 years of direct experience with Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) and/or Workface Planning (WFP).
  • Experience supporting underground, above ground, and modular construction projects.

Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with AWP/WFP tools and Installation Work Package (IWP) systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Experience with 3D model review tools such as Navisworks and SmartPlant Review.
  • Strong data validation, planning, and organizational skills.

Working Conditions
  • Site-based role located in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
  • Candidates must be local to the Edmonton area.
  • Work environment includes field conditions such as exposure to weather, construction equipment, elevated and confined spaces, and temporary office settings.
