The Civil Engineer required for our engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects. The initial assignment entails an exciting new industrial (nuclear energy) project for one of our leading energy Clients. In general, the Civil Engineer is responsible for preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports for both front end planning studies and the detailed engineering phase for multi-disciplinary projects. In the role of Civil Engineer, the role provides support to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for supervising a team of civil, hydrotechnical and geotechnical engineers as well as designers, draftspersons, and GIS analysts. The role will also entail management roles that require obtaining approvals from local government councils/authorities, engaging with Clients and Contractors, handling site queries and producing tender documentation. The Civil Engineer provides leadership and assists in the resolution of all technical issues related to the discipline. The Civil Engineer participates in a wide range of projects that may cover earthworks, road and rail design, airstrips, villages, residential and commercial developments, utilities including pump stations, dams, drainage, and permanent way layouts for both front end planning and the detailed engineering phase for multi-discipline projects.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist the Engineering Manager with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost, and schedule
• Prepare Engineering Work Packages (EWPs) in consultation with the Engineering Manager
• Prepare/assign work tasks (via signed off EWPs) to individuals and continuously monitor progress and quality
• Develop the manpower schedule
• Develop the civil work plan for insertion into the project specific execution plan • Assist in the compilation and delivery of monthly engineering status reports
• Represent the discipline in the project engineering coordination meetings • Prepare and/or review project procedures, standard specifications, and design criteria
• Review and evaluate technical work prepared by junior engineers, intermediate engineers, designers, technicians, and technologists
• Perform conceptual and detailed engineering design
• Prepare engineering calculations and technical specifications
• Prepare and contribute to technical memos, reports and close out reports
• Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates • Participate in and contribute to design reviews
• Carry out assigned tasks within budget and schedule
• Stamp documents and drawings as required and if appropriately registered
• Ensure co-ordination with designers and engineers within the civil discipline and with other disciplines
• Undertake construction supervision and management dependent upon project demands
• Support of site engineering team to provide technical solutions and timely response to technical queries
• Work to ensure the implementation of safety in design and integrity principles in design documentation Qualifications and Experience Essentia
l • A recognized degree in civil engineering from an accredited university
• Professional/Chartered Engineer registered with the Engineering Council • 10 - 15 years' experience in relevant local (British) civil design and management • Sound understanding of local (British) design engineering codes and technical standards • Experience in the energy / oil and gas sector
• Ability to manage and delegate to individuals to attain quality, cost, and schedule objectives
• Experience with working on projects in a multi-disciplinary environment • Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Good planning and organizational skills • Ability to function with minimal supervision • Good safety awareness. Preferred • Experience in the use of Civil3D •
