The engineering dept. of the company is accountable for driving competitive execution strategies through leading and managing the design, build, commissioning and successful handover of Process Plants to worldwide customers.
A Commissioning & Start Up Engineer is responsible for the Commissioning of plants principally within Europe, the Middle East and Africa but with some potential for involvement further afield as part of the Global Organization
This is a site and office based role, it is expected that you will spend extended periods on sites within Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Responsibilities:
You will participate in commissioning of processing plants world-wide, for the Operations department and for third party customers. In this role you will be expected to manage the activities of an area of section of plant through pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up.
Activities within the engineering offices during periods of no on-site commissioning commitments may include – Flow sheet development, Commissioning procedure preparation as well as support to bid activities and commissioning planning.
You will provide site leadership on a range of projects within the organization from standard plant range to large and mega projects. You will support delivery of the projects KPI’s, including leading by example with safety, quality and schedule KPI’s onto every individual in the team.
For this role you must have a proven drive and understanding of Industry standard handover process from Construction and to Operations and be able to drive a Completions process to support this.
You will also provide site leadership in EH&S ensuring prompt prioritisation and coordination of all risks, issues and unforeseen issues at site, escalating as required. Here for you are able to provide routine reports on site status, progress and issues for on and off site management.
The most challenging part of the job is that schedules are often tight. There can be a lot of pressure on the commissioning team to get the plant on-stream and supply of gas and liquid products established to the customer. Planning and communicating for this is an essential requirement of the role.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering qualification, equivalent qualifications will be considered.
- 10-15 years site experience working in chemical, petrochemical or related process industries.
- Good knowledge of Government legislation, international regulations and HSE best practice.
- Start-up, commissioning or plant operating experience is an advantage, Cryogenic Air Separation and Flammable gas plant experience preferred
- Have an understanding and to be knowledgeable in aspects of process commissioning of systems and equipment
- Cross discipline skills in electrical, controls, instruments, mechanical equipment are an advantage
- A strong knowledge of relevant industrial standards and work processes to ensure safe and practical installation and commissioning through the pre-commissioning to start-up and performance test phases.
- A Team Player with Strong Process safety management experience
- Strong and effective leader and coordinator with good written and oral in English language: good presentation and report writing skills
- Strong planning, coordination and risk management including conducting risk assessments, writing and receiving safety work permits.
- Use of Completions tool and understanding of company's / Industry handover management process.
- Organized, disciplined, able to perform under pressure and manage multiple priorities and parallel tasks
- Strong Microsoft software skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
Passport, internationally mobile.
- Flexible attitude to travel, sometimes at short notice and be prepared for extended periods away from home
