Control Engineer

We are currently recruiting for a Developer in the Offshore Wind sector. They are looking for a Control Engineer to be based at their Coventry HQ, on a 6 month contract basis.

This role will be working a shift pattern so candidates should ideally be within commuting distance to Coventry.

Job purpose:

The safe and effective 24/7 supervisory monitoring and operation of a diverse European wind farm portfolio and major High Voltage (HV) networks up to 400kV and compliance with the the clients' Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) Safety rules, Wind turbine Safety Rules (WTSR), operational procedures and the use of specific standard and bespoke IT systems.

Requirements:

- A sound engineering or scientific qualification, preferably a degree or relevant industrial experience.
- Technical / operations background and aptitude for power plant operation and risk management.
- HSSE awareness to high business standards (e.g. IOSH, NEEBOSH).
- Financial and commercial awareness.
- Ability to be an Operational Controller under the wind turbine safety rules.
- Ability to be an Authorised Person and control person under the E&M Safety rules.
- Work alone and unsupervised on 24/7 shift rota.
- Must be an excellent team player and able to work collaboratively with and through others.
- Maintain excellent inter shift team skills’ ensuring all information is made available to enable a considered decision to be made quickly.
- Ability to embrace ever changing operational requirements.
- Problem solving and root cause identification skills.
- Able to work effectively at all levels in an organization.
- Acute business acumen and understanding of organizational issues and challenges
- Planning and organisational skills with effective prioritisation.
- Understand the IT systems in place to ensure a high level understanding is maintained.
- Ability to communicate confidently with related departments both internal and external and able to work to tight time scales for all instructions
- Monitor, control, fault find, issue and receive instructions on various European high voltage networks.
- Ability to understand a variety of energy networks within Europe.
- SCADA, IT systems etc.
- Acting as a Control Person under the clients' E&M Safety rules for the management of the HV distribution assets for European wind farms.
- Day to day management of the distributed high voltage network assets spread across Europe, including management of the system requirements and authorisations of switching operations.
- Excellent communication skills i.e. NGC, Stakeholders, Emergency Services etc.
