Summary
The Environmental Health Officer is responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing employee health & safety of all facilities, with moderate travel required. Will also oversee and ensure the company is in compliance with any applicable Federal Regulations, conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures, employee safety training and assist with implementation of policies as it relates to safety and environmental affairs.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist with the management of hazardous waste policies and procedures
Conduct routine compliance and safety audits at all site locations
Conduct employee safety training to maintain regulatory compliance
Oversee and review emergency response measures and programs
Work with VP of Safety & Operations to establish and implement industrial hygiene policies and procedures, as applicable
Coordinate and organize the activities of the Emergency Response Teams and all associated equipment
Conduct safety equipment inspections and ensure prompt repairs accordingly
Maintain compliance of Respiratory Protection Program
Perform Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and evaluation of all processes in coordination with VP of Safety & Operations
Complete and maintain OSHA 300 Logs; assist as needed in preparing other reports and files
Perform accident and incident investigation for any workplace occurrence
Assist VP of Safety & Operations prepare and/or participate with representing the company at seminars, community meetings, legal proceedings, OSHA conferences and other regulatory conferences, investigations or proceedings
Interact with all levels of employees and regulatory officials, safety and waste vendors in the absence of VP of Safety & Operations, as required
Coordinate quarterly fire drills for all locations
Coordinate and facilitate monthly Safety Committee meetings at all site locations
Other duties as assigned
Skills & Abilities
Computer skills and MS Office skills
Knowledge of EPA, DOT and TSCA regulations
Familiarity with NFPA Code
Ability and credentials to conduct 40 hours HAZWOPER training
Willing to travel to all sites within Pennsylvania
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to speak in front of large groups
Strong ability to work well in a team environment
Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
Strong time management skills
Must have familiarity with the chemical industry and related standards
Required Education and Experience
BS in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering Sciences or related field required
0-5 years of related experience
OSHA 40 HAZWOPER course Certification, preferred
General background knowledge with ANSI and NIOH Standards
Strong background with OSHA regulations
Thorough knowledge of Chemical Hygiene Standards & Industrial Practices
Familiarity with NFPA Code
Must be smoke and tobacco free
Working Conditions
Physical Environment: Industrial, laboratory/manufacturing environment
Candidate will have to work in high heat environment and outside in freezing temperatures
Must be able to climb ladders and will spend extended periods of time standing and sitting
Must successfully pass a fit test for negative pressure respirator use and be required to wear a respirator, as applicable
Required foot protection, flame retardant garments and eye protection must be worn in compliance with Chemical Hygiene Plan.
May be exposed to hazardous materials and hazardous waste
