Hours: 6pm to 6am
The Extrusion Operator – Shift Head is a key technical role responsible for operating extrusion lines and managing personnel during night shifts, ensuring continuous and seamless pipe production during plant operations, while collaborating closely with production management, pipe yard operations, and quality teams. The Extrusion Operator – Shift Head will manage shift personnel, organize roles during shifts, be responsible for the correct functioning of the production machinery, identify and correct production issues before they arise, and communicate with the production supervisor and the production manager.
- Managing and organizing shift production personnel under their supervision.
- Communicate effectively with pipe yard personnel during pipe production.
- Maintaining and operating plastic extrusion machinery.
- Handling raw material for extrusion operations.
- Setting up tools and calibrators.
- Starting up various profiles, ensuring start-up procedures are followed.
- Check the entire extruder before starting up to ensure no tools are left on the table.
- Making minor adjustments to equipment.
- Inspecting the line for quality products and early identification of issues.
- Communicating to production supervisor on maintenance, scrap, and shift change reports.
- Maintaining a clean work environment.
- Troubleshooting when issues arise.
- Tagging tools when removed to a line to indicate if maintenance is required.
- Continuous learning.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience in a continuous manufacturing process environment.
- Previous experience in setting up, troubleshooting, tear downs, and changeovers.
- Proven ability to follow standards, rules, policies, work instructions directions.
- Ability to operate equipment, mechanical aptitude, and reasoning ability.
- Understanding the importance of machine set-up and the need to manufacture premium quality products at every moment.
- Have a quality focus.
- Ability to use measuring equipment.
- Forklift license/experience.
- Strong math and computer skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with frequently changing dynamics.
- Great organizational skills.
- Ability to follow workflow and schedules.
- Energetic, punctual, reliable, and able to work as a team player or independently.
- Good communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
