The HV Technician will work exclusively offshore on a major offshore wind development involving multiple offshore platforms, extensive HV transmission assets, and complex commissioning sequences. The role focuses on high‑voltage installation, testing, commissioning, and early‑operations support across offshore substations, converter platforms, and export‑system interfaces. This is a marine‑based position requiring strong HV competence, strict adherence to offshore electrical safety rules, and the ability to operate within a multi‑contract offshore construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • HV Offshore Equipment Installation & Testing — Install, test, and verify offshore HV equipment including switchgear, transformers, protection systems, and cable terminations.

  • Offshore Commissioning Support — Assist commissioning teams with energisation preparation, functional testing, fault‑finding, and system verification on offshore platforms.

  • Offshore Electrical Safety — Work under offshore HV safety rules, isolation procedures, LOTO systems, and marine permit‑to‑work processes.

  • Platform Operations — Support HV activities across offshore substations, converter platforms, and export cable interface points.

  • Documentation & Reporting — Complete offshore test sheets, inspection records, switching logs, and commissioning documentation to project standards.

  • Fault Response Offshore — Support troubleshooting and corrective actions on HV plant during offshore construction, commissioning, and early operations.

  • Contractor & OEM Coordination — Interface with offshore contractors, marine crews, and package teams to ensure safe and compliant execution of HV tasks.

  • Quality Assurance Offshore — Verify installation quality, cable terminations, torqueing, insulation resistance results, and readiness for energisation.

  • System Readiness Offshore — Support offshore walkdowns, punch‑list closure, and pre‑energisation readiness reviews.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Recognised HV Competency — Formal HV switching/authorisation or equivalent HV training.

  • Offshore HV Experience — Proven experience working offshore on HV systems within offshore wind, offshore substations, offshore platforms, or marine energy infrastructure.

  • Technical Knowledge — Strong understanding of offshore switchgear, transformers, protection relays, cable terminations, fibre integration, and SCADA interfaces.

  • Offshore Safety Systems — Experience working under offshore electrical safety rules, LOTO systems, and marine permit‑to‑work procedures.

  • Documentation Skills — Ability to produce accurate offshore test records, inspection sheets, and commissioning documentation.

  • Communication — Clear English communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Offshore Certification — Valid GWO, offshore medical, and marine survival certificates.

  • Right to Work — Must hold valid work rights suitable for UK offshore deployment.
