Job Description: RCM – Inventory Management & Warehouse Operations Subject Matter Expert (SME)
Position Overview
The RCM – Inventory Management & Warehouse Operations Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for developing, governing, and continuously improving warehouse and inventory management practices to support asset reliability and maintenance execution.
This role applies Reliability‑Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles and Lean methodologies to ensure material availability, inventory accuracy, and efficient warehouse operations across EPC and operating environments.
The SME plays a critical role in aligning materials management processes with maintenance planning, scheduling, and reliability objectives to reduce waste, prevent stockouts, control excess inventory, and enable disciplined maintenance execution.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Warehouse Management
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for warehouse and inventory management processes.
- Ensure spare parts, materials, and consumables are available to support maintenance and reliability requirements.
- Establish and maintain inventory accuracy standards, cycle counting programs, and physical inventory controls.
- Oversee warehouse layout, material flow, storage practices, and material handling processes.
- Reliability‑Centered Maintenance (RCM) Support
- Align inventory strategies with RCM requirements to support critical asset maintenance and reliability objectives.
- Partner with Maintenance and Reliability teams to identify critical spares, optimize min/max levels, and eliminate obsolete materials.
- Ensure materials readiness supports planned maintenance execution and schedule compliance.
Lean & Continuous Improvement
- Apply Lean principles to optimize warehouse workflows, spare parts management, and kitting processes.
- Identify and eliminate waste related to overstocking, stockouts, excess handling, and inefficient material movement.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on improving flow, standardization, and repeatable outcomes.
- Materials Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate closely with Maintenance Planning and Scheduling teams to align material availability with work execution timelines.
- Support kitting and staging of materials for maintenance work orders and outages.
- Improve cross‑functional coordination between Supply Chain, Maintenance, Operations, and EPC project teams.
- Backlog & Inventory Optimization
- Support backlog management by ensuring materials are available for prioritized work.
- Analyze inventory performance metrics to balance service levels, carrying costs, and reliability needs.
- Reduce excess and obsolete inventory through structured review and disposition processes.
Systems, Data & Reporting
- Utilize CMMS/EAM and inventory systems to maintain accurate material records and transaction history.
- Develop and monitor KPIs related to inventory accuracy, stockouts, service levels, and warehouse performance.
- Provide data‑driven recommendations to leadership to improve materials management effectiveness.
EPC & Project Support
- Support EPC projects during construction, commissioning, and transition to operations by ensuring material readiness.
- Align warehouse and inventory practices with project schedules, outages, and startup activities.
- Support handover processes to ensure materials management practices are sustainable post‑project.
Qualifications - Required
Extensive experience in inventory management and warehouse operations within EPC, industrial, utilities, or manufacturing environments.
Strong working knowledge of Reliability‑Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles.
Demonstrated experience applying Lean methodologies to supply chain or warehouse operations.
Proven ability to align materials management with maintenance planning and reliability goals.
Preferred
Experience serving as a Subject Matter Expert or process owner for inventory or warehouse operations.
Familiarity with CMMS/EAM systems (e.g., Maximo, SAP, Oracle).
Strong analytical, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
Experience supporting large‑scale EPC projects or operational transitions.
