We are seeking a capable and motivated Lead Senior Mechanical Engineer accountable for the technical integrity, coordination, and delivery of all mechanical engineering activities on assigned mining projects. The role focuses on design leadership, technical governance, and integration across disciplines, ensuring alignment with project objectives, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements throughout the project lifecycle. This role is based in Johannesburg.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for mechanical engineering activities across mining projects.
- Lead and coordinate teams of mechanical and mining‑related engineers to deliver accurate, robust, and constructible designs.
- Oversee the development and review of mechanical engineering deliverables, including specifications, calculations, layouts, and reports.
- Ensure mechanical designs meet safety, quality, regulatory, and client requirements.
- Interface closely with process engineering, project management, project controls, procurement, construction advisory teams, and client stakeholders.
- Promote effective communication and timely resolution of cross‑disciplinary engineering challenges.
- Drive value engineering and cost‑competitive execution strategies to support efficient, fit‑for‑purpose project outcomes.
- Support project planning through input into schedules, resourcing strategies, and man‑hour estimates.
- Monitor engineering performance against budget and schedule targets, supporting change management where required.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, codes, statutory requirements, and internal quality systems.
- Accredited four‑year degree (or global equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 12+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering within mining, minerals processing, environment.
- Demonstrated experience within engineering consulting or EPCM project delivery models.
- Proven ability to provide technical leadership and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Professional registration or recognized certification appropriate to the location.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable local and international mechanical engineering codes and standards.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- High attention to detail and the ability to perform effectively in complex, time‑sensitive project environments.
