Key Accountabilities
Leadership & Safety

- Lead the mine team across safety, environment, maintenance, production, and quality.
- Ensure compliance with statutory mining regulations and company standards.
- Own the Safety Pillar in the WCM programme, fostering a positive safety culture.
- Manage explosives use in compliance with police, IIE, and Department of Justice regulations.

- Design and implement safe, economical gypsum extraction methods.
- Allocate resources, prepare shift schedules, and optimize productivity.
- Develop 5-year mine plans (capital, extraction sequencing, ventilation, headcount).
- Conduct exploratory drilling and liaise with Group Mineral Resources Division.

- Prepare budgets and detailed analyses.
- Report weekly/monthly mine performance, explaining variances and corrective actions.
- Drive World-Class Manufacturing (WCM) programme to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

- Maintain constructive relationships with local communities and regulators.
- Represent the company on official mining and quarrying bodies.
- Liaise with environmental agencies on subsidence remediation and conservation.

- Recruit, train, and motivate workforce.
- Manage industrial relations with multiple unions.
- Ensure succession planning and robust training systems.

- Control direct and indirect mine costs.
- Align operations with customer demand for volume and quality.
- Maintain strategic rock stock levels.
- Builds strong collaborative relationships across teams/functions.
- Engages people in a shared vision through dialogue and communication.
- Configures teams to deliver timely, accurate support.
- Promotes continuous improvement and drives change positively.
- Applies performance management principles (goal setting, coaching, feedback).
- Safety: Statutory responsibility, emergency preparedness, accident investigation, ventilation, ground control.
- Mine Planning/Engineering: Long-term planning, geotechnical design, capex submissions.
- Environment: Subsidence remediation, energy conservation, environmental management systems.
- Quality: Optimize run-of-mine rock quality, align operations with customer demand.
- WCM: Identify loss areas, improve OEE, sustain improvements via AM/PM/FI tools.
- People Development: Competent appointments, inclusive culture, succession planning.
- Cost Control: Budget preparation, cost management, capital project delivery.
- Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or related discipline (postgraduate desirable).
- 10+ years mining operations experience, 5+ years in senior leadership.
- Proven underground and open-pit mining management.
- Project and cost management qualifications.
- Strong commercial awareness, data analysis, and presentation skills.
- Hands-on, results-driven leader with a track record of successful mine management.
