Quality Assurance Director

An international client with presence in Europe and North America and engaged in steel-making and tube manufacturing is looking to fill a strategic Quality Assurance Director role for their manufacturing facility in the west coast.

The group is a highly collaborative work environment, very low turnover in that team, and successful candidate will have absolute autonomy in this role.

Scope of work:
-This role was created to report to the VP Quality and Technical Services who is based in the US and this role will be managing the Canadian operations in the western region.
-A total of 5 direct reports (QA Managers) and about 70-80 people indirectly reporting to this role.
-They will be leading a group of technical experts in that field, the culture between quality and operations can be complicated and this person needs to be able to handle these situations.

General details:
-Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
-Must have a strong understanding of QA processes within the Steel manufacturing or Tubular sectors.
-Steel or tube manufacturing background is a must.
-NDT experience or Six Sigma Belt is an asset.
-This role will be based in Calgary and 30-40% travel to the mills is required and then the rest will be out of the office in Calgary.
-They will be working out of the sites so the need to be physically there is very crucial for at least the first 3 months.
-Open to relocate from anywhere in Canada or United States.
-They are going to have to be boots on the ground in the mills, a number of face to face interactions (safely). After that, they could be set up to work from home if needed.

Soft Skills:
-A Leader, someone who can handle managing multiple sites and be able to challenge the status quo.
-Someone who’s sharp, very organized and has strong time management skills.
-People management is very important, someone effective as a leader with solid interpersonal skills.
-Ability to leverage the strengths of each of the sites.
-Someone who can shift and adapt easily accompanied with high interpersonal skills.
-Ability to communicate with staff at all levels and understand their situation.
-This candidate needs to be confident and able to address issues as they arise.
