We currently seek a high-caliber Safety Officer for a direct hire basis within our client’s team of experienced professionals.

Our client is a family-owned, Amarillo-based company specializing in turnkey civil and energy-focused construction projects. They provide services such as below-grade civil work, pipeline installation, directional boring, and battery energy storage system (BESS) installations. Known for being a self-performing contractor, our client emphasizes safety, quality, and integrity while maintaining tight engineering tolerances.
Job Overview:
The Onsite Safety Officer is responsible for implementing, enforcing, and monitoring safety and health programs on active construction sites. This role ensures compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and client requirements, with a strong emphasis on electrical safety, hazard mitigation, and injury prevention.
The Safety Officer serves as the primary safety presence in the field, providing leadership, oversight, training, and stop-work authority to maintain a safe work environment.
Job Duties:
Safety Oversight & Compliance
Enforce company Safety Management System (SMS) and site-specific safety plans
Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC, and client safety standards
Conduct daily site safety inspections and audits
Monitor contractor and subcontractor safety performance
Hazard Identification & Risk Mitigation
Lead Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Pre-Task Plans
Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors
Implement corrective actions and track closure
Verify controls for high-risk activities (electrical work, lifting, confined space, work at heights)
Electrical Safety
Verify electrical safety procedures, including: Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
Arc-flash boundaries
Grounding and bonding
Energized work permits (if applicable)
Confirm workers are qualified and authorized for electrical tasks
Training & Communication
Conduct site safety orientations and toolbox talks
Provide coaching and mentoring to field personnel
Verify employee training, certifications, and PPE compliance
Promote a strong safety culture and stop-work authority
Incident Management
Respond to incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions
Lead or assist with incident investigations
Complete incident reports and corrective action plans
Coordinate medical response and emergency procedures
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain site safety records, including: JHAs
Inspections
Training logs
Incident reports
Submit daily, weekly, and monthly safety reports
Assist with audits and client safety reviews
Authority
Has full Stop-Work Authority when unsafe conditions exist
Authorized to remove personnel from site for safety violations
Authorized to recommend disciplinary action for repeated non-compliance
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification (required)
Knowledge of electrical construction safety practices
Ability to read and interpret safety plans, procedures, and drawings
Strong communication and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
NCCER Safety Certification
NFPA 70E training
First Aid / CPR / AED certification
Experience on electrical substations, transmission, or industrial projects
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Experience Requirements
Minimum 2–5 years construction safety experience
Experience in electrical or heavy-industrial environments strongly preferred
Skills & Competencies:
Ability to walk active construction sites for extended periods
Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated work areas
Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
Ability to wear required PPE (FR clothing, hard hat, safety boots, etc.)
