Overview
The Quality Assurance Lead is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the project’s Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure all engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities meet Saskatchewan mining regulations, CSA standards, client specifications, and internal quality requirements.
This role provides leadership to QA/QC teams, interfaces with contractors, and ensures the project delivers safe, compliant, and high‑quality outcomes.
- This position is based on our project site near Leroy Saskatchewan on a 14/7 rotation.
Responsibilities
- Quality Management System — Develop, implement, and maintain the project QMS aligned with ISO 9001 and mining‑sector best practices.
- Inspection & Test Planning — Approve ITPs, quality plans, and contractor QA documentation.
- Regulatory Compliance — Ensure adherence to Saskatchewan OH&S, mining regulations, environmental requirements, and applicable CSA/ASTM standards.
- Audit Leadership — Lead internal and external audits, supplier audits, and construction quality audits.
- Non‑Conformance Management — Oversee NCRs, root‑cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions.
- Contractor Oversight — Monitor contractor performance, verify compliance, and escalate quality risks.
- Documentation Control — Ensure accurate and timely quality documentation, turnover packages, and QA records.
- Material Verification — Validate material certifications, welding procedures, coatings, and equipment compliance.
- Commissioning Support — Support pre‑commissioning and commissioning quality verification.
- Team Leadership — Mentor QA/QC inspectors, coordinate daily activities, and ensure competency across disciplines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related technical field.
- 10+ years of QA/QC experience in mining, heavy industrial, oil & gas, or major capital projects.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Saskatchewan Mining Regulations
- ISO 9001 QMS
- CSA W47.1/W59 (welding)
- NACE/AMPP coatings standards
- API/ASTM/ASME standards
- Experience leading audits and managing NCR/CAR processes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary QA/QC teams.
- Strong communication and contractor‑management skills.
Preferred Certifications
- CWB Welding Inspector Level 2 or 3 — Strongly preferred for overseeing welding quality, procedure qualification, and structural compliance.
- AMPP/NACE Coatings Inspector Level 1 or 2 — Highly desirable for managing coatings QA, surface prep verification, and corrosion‑control compliance.
- CQA (ASQ Certified Quality Auditor).
- CQE (ASQ Certified Quality Engineer).
- P.Eng. or EIT designation.
- Project Management certification (asset).
