TRS Staffing Solutions is seeking an experienced and hands-on Advisor, Health & Safety to support our client’s mining project team. This role is focused on field-based safety support, including inspections, audits, incident investigations, and working closely with operations and contractors to ensure safe execution of work.
This is a site-based rotational role (2 weeks on / 2 weeks off, 12-hour shifts) located at a remote mining project in Northern British Columbia.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct field inspections and safety audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards
- Work with contractors to ensure risk management requirements are implemented and critical controls are in place
- Support incident investigations, including event reporting and root cause analysis (e.g., 5 Whys)
- Deliver safety coaching and guidance to site personnel, including pre-task hazard assessments and risk assessments
- Support implementation of site health and safety plans and procedures
- Contribute to safety programs including incident management, fatality prevention, and health and wellbeing initiatives
- Provide support to frontline leaders to promote safe work practices and workforce engagement
- Coordinate safety representative programs and workforce participation initiatives
- Support safety management systems, including change management processes
- Assist with compliance and assurance activities related to safety standards and procedures
- Perform additional duties as required
Requirements
- Previous experience in mining, construction, or heavy industrial environments
- Experience working in a health and safety or field safety support role
- Experience conducting inspections, audits, and incident investigations
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, MSHA, or equivalent)
- Understanding of hazard identification and risk assessment processes
- Ability to work with contractors and operations teams in a field environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in both open pit and underground mining environments
- Comfortable working at a remote site on a rotational schedule (2x2, 12-hour shifts)
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting mining or large construction projects
- Familiarity with safety management systems and compliance processes
- Basic knowledge of reporting, tracking, and safety performance metrics
- Understanding of change management processes
