Job Description
HSE Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) systems at solar power project sites to ensure zero harm, statutory compliance, and alignment with company and client HSE standards during construction, commissioning, and operations.
Role & Responsibilities
- Prepare and implement Project HSE Plan for solar construction and commissioning.
- Ensure compliance with Factory Act, BOCW Act, Electricity Act, IS & NBC standards.
- Identify site hazards and conduct Risk Assessment / JSA for all activities.
- Enforce PPE usage including helmet, safety shoes, harness, gloves, arc‑flash PPE.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Stop unsafe acts and unsafe conditions at site.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses and implement corrective actions.
- Implement Environmental Management Plan (EMP).
- Control dust, noise, and wastewater generation at site.
- Ensure proper waste segregation and disposal (scrap, oil, hazardous waste).
- Monitor oil spill prevention at transformers and DG sets.
- Ensure compliance with State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) requirements.
- Promote green and sustainable practices on site.
- Bachelor's degree in any engineering or occupational health and safety, environmental science, or a related field is often required.
- Any Diploma courses in Health & Environment or Fire & Industrial Safety management or related fields are required. Certifications: having any of the below listed certification shall be an advantage
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP): Offered by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), it is highly regarded.
- Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) or equivalent certifications depending on the industry.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification: Many roles require basic first aid and emergency response certifications.
- NEBOSH IGC, International General Certificate in Health & Safety
- OSHA- Construction Safety Certification course
- IOSH- Managing Safety Certification course
- Driving Safety Culture: Must have ability to drive safety culture across the organization
- Policy Implementation: Proven ability to develop and enforce safety policies tailored to solar construction and operations.
- Site Inspections and Audits: Hands-on experience conducting safety inspections and audits on solar project sites.
- Incident Investigation: Experience in investigating safety risks, hazards, incidents and implementing corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
