TRS is currently recruiting for an experienced Overhead Line Network Designer to join a growing engineering team delivering major infrastructure projects. This role is primarily based in Dublin or Kerry, with flexibility across other office locations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and development of overhead line (OHL) projects associated with renewable energy connections, transmission and distribution networks, substations, and utility infrastructure. The role will involve working collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver safe, efficient, and compliant designs from concept through to construction.

Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
- Prepare overhead line designs for LV, MV, HV and EHV electrical infrastructure projects.
- Produce route assessments, design calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Undertake pole and tower spotting, line profiling, sag and tension calculations, and conductor selection.
- Develop detailed design packages suitable for planning, tender, construction, and as-built stages.
- Review project specifications, technical standards, and client requirements to ensure compliance.
- Support renewable energy grid connection projects including wind, solar and battery storage developments.
- Support projects throughout the full lifecycle from concept and planning through to construction and commissioning.
- Coordinate design activities to ensure programme milestones and project deliverables are achieved.
- Manage design changes, technical queries, and requests for information (RFIs).
- Attend design reviews and participate in project meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide technical support to construction and commissioning teams.
- Liaise with clients, utility providers, local authorities, landowners and project stakeholders.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including Civil, Structural, Electrical, Environmental and Planning disciplines.
- Assist with tender submissions by providing technical design input and cost-related information.
- Ensure all designs comply with:
- ESB Networks Standards
- EirGrid Standards
- IEC Standards
- ENA Engineering Recommendations
- Relevant Irish and European regulations
- Adhere to company Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
- Support compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the design function.
- Undertake site visits and surveys as required.
- Support construction teams during project delivery.
- Participate in site meetings and inspections to ensure design intent is achieved.
Required Experience
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 3+ years' experience in overhead line design, utility infrastructure or power engineering projects.
- Experience designing overhead line networks within transmission and/or distribution environments.
- Knowledge of renewable energy infrastructure and grid connection projects.
- Experience producing technical drawings and engineering calculations.
- Strong understanding of ESB Networks and/or EirGrid design requirements.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Full clean driving licence.
- Experience working on renewable energy projects including:
- Wind Farms
- Solar Farms
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Familiarity with PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, MicroStation or equivalent design software.
- Experience in transmission line design for 38kV, 110kV, 220kV or 400kV networks.
- Knowledge of planning and consenting processes for utility infrastructure projects.
- Chartered Engineer status or progression towards chartership.
