We are seeking a Lead Process Engineer to take ownership of process design for mining and mineral processing projects. Lead a team, work closely with clients, and ensure designs are practical, safe, and cost-effective. This role is located in Johannesburg.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead process engineering design for mineral processing plants.
- Guide and manage a team of process engineers.
- Develop and review key deliverables such as:
- Process Design Criteria (PDC).
- Mass balances.
- Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs).
- Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Equipment specifications and lists.
- Interpret metallurgical test work and translate into design.
- Work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Support study phases (concept, pre-feasibility, feasibility, and detailed design).
- Participate in HAZOP and safety reviews.
- Review vendor data and support equipment selection.
- Assist with project planning, effort-hour estimates, and schedules.
Qualifications And Skills Requirements:
- Degree in Process, Metallurgical, or Chemical Engineering.
- Minimum 14 years’ experience in mineral processing plant design.
- Strong experience in gold or copper projects (essential).
- Experience in an EPCM, consulting, or design environment.
- Ability to lead teams and manage multiple deliverables.
- Strong communication and client-facing skills.
- Experience in PGM, chrome, or base metals processing.
- Exposure to commissioning or plant operations.
- Professional registration (e.g. ECSA) or working towards it.
