Position Overview

The Logistics Manager is responsible for managing and improving the overall performance for all logistics operational and procurement activities in Europe. The individual will be responsible for operations, execution, driving to the optimal operational cost and monitoring and improving supplier performance across all mode types. In addition, the individual will manage all EU procurement aspects of the modes and value add logistics services (Freight Forwarding, EU Air, Terminals, Warehouse(s) and Forwarding) to support business growth strategies as well as develop and execute mode procurement strategies, negotiate contracts, manage core supplier relationships, and lead supplier implementations. Total managed spend is approximately $ 15million. The individual will drive standardization and best practices across Hexion Europe in alignment with the Global Hexion safety standards, legislation, and Procurement standards. The individual will be the EU representative for Global Trade Compliance related matters.

Job Responsibilities

Operations
Responsible for the operational aspects of Hexion EU Logistics across all modes, external warehouses, filling locations, terminals and trans loads including truck, rail, barge and air logistics;
Supports the Global Marine manager for EU related Marine matters;
Drives Logistic tenders, coordinates implementations and carrier or warehouse changes;
Coordinates logistics assets including rail fleet, terminal leases and container fleet.;
Develops and maintains logistics management procedures and workflows;
Supports monthly logistics performance metrics used for continuous improvement of costs, performance and maintenance of certifications (ISO);
Promotes safe operations and compliance to legislation and regulations;
Acts as the Logistics liaison between the Business, Site Logistics, Customer Service, and Supply Chain.

Procurement
Strategic management of logistics modes with annual spend approximately $ 15million (full responsibility);.
Negotiates and administers contracts across assigned logistics mode(s);
Develops strategic relationship with selected key suppliers for assigned modes;.
Develops and owns Procurement plans for assigned logistic modes globally, i.e. Air and Freight Forwarding and drives strategy in the organization;.
Translates business requirements into logistics requirements in cooperation with Business/Supply Chain;.
Supports day-to-day Logistics Procurement issues escalated by the business units (supportive responsibility);.
Provides guidance to business units on logistics industry trends and other gathered intelligence.

Trade Compliance
Manages the customs licenses and procedures for AEO, end-use, Excise, etc.;
Liaises with customs authorities and third-party customs consultants;
Proactively identifies and communicates changes to EU import/export laws and regulations.

Business & Operations Partnership
Leads supplier performance meetings with key logistics partners;
Participates in SIOP/S&OE meetings with a focus on logistics performance metrics, cost performance and mode supply shortfalls;
Provides monthly logistics reports and delivers presentations to key business and operations teams;
Partners with the Business, Site Logistics, Customer Service, Supply Chain and Logistics Procurement to manage logistics support;.
Develops and presents deep dives for assigned logistics modes (full responsibility);.
Works closely with Raw Material Commodity Owners on inbound activities, business units, Supply Chain and Commercial leaders on outbound activities, and corporate functional leaders on process improvements (shared responsibility);.

Minimum Qualifications
BS degree preferably in Logistics, Procurement, Supply Chain, or Operations;
At least 7 years’ experience in multiple logistical modes;
Functional background in logistics/supply chain;
Strong communication skills both orally and in writing, internal and external to the company;
Strong management of change skills and experience;
Ability to effectively manage conflict;
Demonstrated ability to lead through influence;
Working knowledge of SAP;
Experience with chemical industry products and services including shipping hazardous materials;
Familiar with regulatory compliance;
Demonstrated ability to stay current and accurately interpret industry trends;
Analytical understanding of technical and financial data including the use of metrics to demonstrate performance;
Understanding of basic project management techniques;
Effective negotiation skills;
High integrity;
Must be able to travel 5-10% of the time.
