The Superintendent, Mechanical Main & Aux. Engines is responsible for all the activities relating to the Main and Auxiliary engines overhaul and turbine systems for ships/rigs or other related structures.
Supervises all related activities whether in the workshop, or onboard, or other areas that relative work is ongoing and ensures that works are carried out safely, on time and on budget according to project contractual obligations.
Duties & responsibilities:
- Ensure that all main engines/auxiliary engines, generators, gas turbines activities are meticulously planned.
- Oversee disassembly, inspection and measurement, cleaning, prepare condition reports, identify the nature of repairs through consultation with stakeholders. Discuss ways and methods of carrying out jobs, repair and reassembly of engines/turbines components by ensuring precision in alignment, torque setting and clearances.
- Attend class inspections and clear any arising points.
- Support performance testing equipment testing
- Define priorities and organize distribution of men accordingly.
- Control overtime working and ensure limits as determined by Management are not exceeded
- Provide sound and good knowledge on various types of marine diesel main and aux engines. (MAN, Wartsila, Caterpillar, Rolls Royce, Sulzer etc.) and turbines (GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc.)
- Supervise complete overhauls including cylinder heads, pistons, crankshafts, liners and fuel system.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field or diploma along with proven experience in this field.
- Mechanical/Marine related professional qualifications or relevant time served.
- Proven experience of working in a heavy machinery workshop on main and aux engines (diesel and dual fuel), generators and gas turbines in a reputed major shipyard at equivalent level.
- Real and proven in-depth knowledge of mechanical, main diesel (2 stroke / 4 stroke) aux engines and their types, machining and other mechanical related activities in a major shipyard environment.
- At least 9 years’ experience for degree holders and 15 years’ experience for diploma holders in reputable large shipyards, with proven, hands on and in-depth knowledge in main and auxiliary engines and mechanical works.
