Our client based in Royston is looking for a Mechanical Superintendent who will oversee mechanical construction, installation, and maintenance activities on-site, with a strong focus on lifting operations. This role requires proven leadership in supervising teams, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and coordinating heavy lifting activities in line with project requirements. This role is an initial 12-month contract Outside of IR35.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage mechanical works including installation, commissioning, and maintenance of equipment.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute lifting operations in compliance with industry standards and project-specific lifting plans.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations during all mechanical and lifting activities.
- Review and approve lifting plans, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Lead toolbox talks and safety briefings related to lifting and mechanical works.
- Monitor progress, quality, and productivity of mechanical teams and subcontractors.
- Liaise with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure smooth execution of mechanical and lifting operations.
- Maintain accurate records of lifting equipment inspections, certifications, and usage.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior staff and lifting supervisors.
- Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
- Valid Lifting Supervisor/Competent Person certification (e.g., LOLER, CPCS, or equivalent).
- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in mechanical construction, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Proven track record in managing heavy lifting operations on large-scale industrial, oil & gas, or infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, heavy equipment, cranes, and rigging practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Site-based role, requiring presence at construction or industrial project locations.
- Exposure to heavy machinery, lifting operations, and outdoor working conditions.
- Requires flexibility to work extended hours or shifts depending on project demands.
