Purpose of Job
• Play an active role in creation and maintenance of a sound financial reporting structure in SAP and the BW (data warehouse) to report accurate on time results for assigned producing assets.
• Play an active role in closing SAP on time, complete and accurate.
• Do analysis of producing asset results, report on variances to prior period (month and financial year) actuals and budget for Revenue accounting.
• Variable cost of production.
• Inventory valuation and accounting.
• Margin by unit.
• Fixed cost (labor and maintenance).
• Investigate transactions and results to ensure compliance to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
• Play an active role in planning process for the producing assets: budget and forecast.
Key Accountabilities
• Continuous communication and interaction with Senior Manager and unit managers to ensure maintenance of complete profit and cost center structures in SAP to close on time monthly and report business segment results accurately
• Do journals needed to close SAP every month end
• Investigate monthly transactions, ensuring compliance to active contracts, look for anomalies to either correct or understand to build substance in variance reporting
• Prepare presentation for monthly results meeting pertaining to variance analysis of results for assigned producing assets, investigation findings and corrective actions taken.
• Validate data warehouse producing asset information against SAP information
• Work closely with unit managers and accountants at the operating plant to understand variances, events that influenced results and source information for the planning (budget and forecast) cycles
• Complete templates required by parent group in South Africa to help report Sasol results in total
• Maintain identified controls to support the SOX submission at year-end
• Complete requests from auditors at half year and year end audit
• Do ad-hoc investigations into accounting and producing asset performance as required
Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or finance preferred
• Certified Public Accountant Credential
• Preference: Articles in public accounting firm
• 5 plus years’ experience in financial and cost accounting preferred
• IFRS and US GAAP knowledge
• Strong communication skills
• Proactive, planning and organizational skills
• Strong Excel experience
• Strong experience with systems (HFM, One Stream, SAP)
• Good time management and analytical skills
• Ability to work under pressure
• Quick learner and problem solver
