Training Specialist – Rail Operations & Safety
Location: Ontario (with travel as required)
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Training Specialist to join our team and lead the development and delivery of training programs focused on rail operations, safety, and compliance. This role involves designing engaging learning experiences, coordinating training schedules, and ensuring employees are equipped with the knowledge and skills to perform safely and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain training programs using proven instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE).
- Conduct needs assessments to identify skill gaps and align training with operational and safety standards.
- Create and deliver content across multiple formats, including classroom sessions, eLearning modules, and on-the-job training.
- Facilitate onboarding for new hires and provide upskilling opportunities for existing staff.
- Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness, applying feedback to improve programs.
- Maintain accurate training records and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align learning initiatives with organizational goals.
- Research and recommend tools and technologies to enhance learning experiences.
- Manage training logistics, including scheduling, materials preparation, and cost reporting.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in railway track inspection and maintenance.
- 3–5 years in training and development roles, preferably within rail or heavy industry.
- Hands-on experience with railway track maintenance equipment is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian Railway Operating Rules and Track Inspection Guidelines (or equivalent certifications).
- Familiarity with learning management systems and digital training tools.
- Excellent facilitation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with eLearning design tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline) is an advantage.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
