Summary
While managing the Traffic Department, the ideal candidate will be a results driven leader of a progressive group of Engineers and Designers.
Responsibilities
• Undertake business development activities including proposal preparation, marketing, attendance at conferences, seminars, etc.
• Perform Project Manager functions on transportation planning and traffic engineering projects.
• Undertake simple as well as complex transportation planning and traffic engineering assignments for roadways, highways, and transit facilities.
• Direct analysis and generate engineering products that may include reports, technical memoranda, traffic signal timings, traffic management plans, traffic impact studies, conceptual designs, technical specifications and other supporting documents, exhibits and drawings.
• Review and perform quality control checks for drawings and deliverables.
• Perform Engineer of Record functions.
• Perform research into best practices and latest technology in the transportation industry.
• Mentor and provide support and direction to junior staff.
Qualifications
• 7+ years of relevant and progressive experience with transportation planning and traffic engineering for roadways and highways.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required (English).
• Recognized Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• P.Eng. with APEGA.
• Experience on Alberta Transportation and other municipality transportation projects.
• Strong understanding of traffic engineering fundamentals and analysis tools such as Synchro/SimTraffic, Sidra, HCS and VISSIM.
• Detailed understanding of traffic signal operations, design and timing.
• Understanding of LRT, transit priority and rail pre-emption systems.
• Detailed understanding of pedestrian/cyclist facility design and operations.
• Experience in traffic control systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and communication systems.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products Word, Excel, etc. is required.
