Rampion Visitors Centre Assistant Manager
Full-time position, 5-year contract (subject to extension).
£17/hr PAYE
Overall Purpose of this Post:
The Rampion Visitor Centre (RVC) Assistant Manager will support the RVC Manager in management and development of all operational activities in the Visitor Centre, ensuring the delivery of an exceptional visitor experience.
Your strategic aim is to deliver our vision by reaching out and engaging with a wide and diverse audience of all ages and abilities from the local, national and international community, to positively promote the Rampion Wind Farm and offshore wind energy, highlighting the key role they play in tackling climate change and securing energy supplies.
The RVC Assistant Manager will need to be passionate about renewable energy and tackling climate change, community engagement, education, marketing and partnership working in order to maximise visitor numbers, enhance the visitor experience and transmit core messages in an enjoyable, emotive and engaging way.
Operational Management
• Motivate, and support the Visitor Centre Team to deliver the highest standard of customer care to all visitors at all times.
• To act as Duty Manager and key holder to ensure the Visitor Centre is opened and locked in accordance with the operational and security procedures and to suit the demands of the business.
• Ensure high standards of presentation within the centre are maintained at all times.
Health & Safety
• To work closely with the RVC Manager to ensure the safety of all visitors whilst on the premises.
• Support the RVC Manager to conduct checks under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to ensure a safe working environment throughout the premises.
• Support the RVC Manager in ensuring all Health & Safety policies and procedures for the Visitor Centre are understood and adhered to.
• Act as a designated first aider, and fire marshal
Working hours
RVC will be open six days a week all year round. It is typical to work on average a 32 – 40 -hour week, including at least 2 weekends a month. Hours will reduce slightly in the winter months. . Flexibility and willingness to work weekends is essential.
Skills
Essential:
•Knowledge and passion for climate change issues, sustainable energy, wind power generation and the Rampion project.
•Excellent communication skills for dealing with a wide range of visitors, including children
•Experience of tourism, promotion and marketing to drive the success of the RVC
•Good interpersonal and management skills to motivate a team of staff
•A methodical, motivated and customer-focused approach to work
•An enthusiastic, friendly and confident manner
•Basic IT skills to help with troubleshooting interactive displays
•Proven experience of networking and partnership building
•Experience of working with the general public in tourism and leisure, or similar
•Strategic and creative thinker
•Experience of facilities management & health and safety
Desirable:
•Experience of management within an educational visitor centre attraction
•Experience of teaching school children
•Some events management experience
•Social media marketing experience
•First Aid at Work qualification
Rampion Visitor Centre - Background & Vision
•Rampion’s geographical location puts the wind farm in full view of a heavily populated coastline and the South Downs National Park, with 12million+ visitors each year flocking to Brighton alone and a coastline that sees a high level of recreational sea user activity. The positive interest and massive appetite for information throughout the development and construction process looks set to continue into the operational phase of the project, with charter vessels taking visitors out to see the wind farm whenever conditions allow.
Further information
The successful candidate will need a clear and up-to-date DBS prior to starting the role. We will look to appoint in February 2020, in preparation for the Visitor Centre opening.
