Position specific responsibilities and requirements:

The Area Construction Manager (SF) is responsible for delivery of construction works associated with Inflow process infrastructure packages on the South Flank project, including Bulk Earthworks, Concrete, and SMPE&I works.
Reporting to Site Manager, the Area Construction Manager will manage day-to-day activities of the site construction team for the assigned packages, and is accountable to the Project Manager (PM) with regards to the contracted scope, schedule, and cost.

The Area Construction Manager will:
• Ensure safe execution of all works associated with South Flankpackage.
• Play an active role in the development of the safety culture on the project, making safety an integral part of all work performed.
• Remain knowledgeable of safety policies and procedures and perform assigned duties in a safe manner and, while supervising others, take responsibility for their safety and ensures that they comply with established safety policies and procedures and practice safe work habits.
• Coordinate and manage package construction team required to ensure that contracted work is implemented without incurring unnecessary additional costs and the work is in conformance with the drawings, standards, specifications, schedules, procedures, quality requirements and safety standards.
• Monitor and manage interfaces, project schedule and cost by enabling the efficient use of all construction resources including labour, materials, tools, and equipment.
• Provide construction input for the development of project schedules. Ensure that daily and weekly short-range planning is maintained.
• Monitor productivity and implements appropriate action to support contractor to maintain maximum labour productivity and cost-effectiveness.
• Manage the respective contractor to ensure that they adhere to the construction related contractual requirements including those pertaining to cost, quality, and schedule.
• Monitor that the Contractor has adequately planned for and are adhering to the manpower and construction equipment requirements to support the delivery of schedule milestones.
• Implement mechanisms that ensure that the quality of the work is in accordance with the standards as specified in the design documents and construction contracts.
• Monitor, encourage and report contractor inclusion and diversity progress and compliance.
• Coordinate the Contractor’s participation in field leadership and safety pauses.
• Monitor Contractor performance, and liaise with the Area Project Manager for any issues outside the bounds of the package scope, cost and schedule.
• Accountable for coordinating the Contractor’s site establishment activities.
• Coordinate company supplied services to ensure the Company meets it obligations in the Contract.
• Implement and manage critical control verifications (CCVs) for the package.
• Coordinate, review and approve construction risk assessments. Review project risk register and package risk register, implement controls and mitigate risks.
• Perform shutdown planning, preparation and execution including regular liaison with the shutdown superintendent.
• Participate in the SMPE&I pre-mobilisation planning phase including development of the construction programme, shutdown schedules, construction sequencing, work packages, and site logistics and access coordination.
• Responsible for interface management with other site functions and teams as required.
• Responsible for management of the Contractors’ handover activities including punching, construction verification and documentation handover in accordance with commissioning requirements.


Position required competencies and skills:
• Experience in a similar role on a large scale multi-billion dollar project
• Experience working in a fast pace environment in the Mining Industry.
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in an efficient manner.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to take initiative and work both independently and as part of a team.



Position required qualifications:
• Trade or engineering qualification preferably with project management training.

Position desired experience, competencies and qualifications:
• 15+ years heavy industry project/construction execution experience
• Field and multi-discipline execution experience
• Project Management certification desirable.
