For our client we are looking to recruit a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join their team in the Rotterdam area.

The company has an established position in Europe as a leading industrial gas owner/operator company,. They are opening a new Project Delivery Hub in the Rotterdam/Hague area in order to support their ambitious growth plans. From here, their people will drive forward and continue to successfully develop, execute and operate an ever-increasing project-portfolio in the region as well as the evolving footprint of our Industrial Gas business in EMEA.

They are investing in the production of clean hydrogen fuel for the mobility sector to decarbonize heavy-duty vehicles. They are also the global leader in creating technology solutions for capturing CO₂ from fossil fuel conversion before it reaches the atmosphere. Furthermore, the gases they produce and distribute are helping reduce food waste, are supplied to hospitals and are used in many other markets. In short: you probably use their products every day, you just don’t realise it!

With an 80-year track record and first-mover ambitions, their 19,000 strong team have made them world-leaders in areas such as carbon capture and hydrogen. Their core competency is an ability to develop, execute, own, and operate some of the world’s largest and most complex industrial gas projects, including one of the world’s largest green hydrogen projects.

For their new Project Delivery location, we are currently looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer.

As our Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will:
- Lead / requisitioning engineer for the planning, specification, and subsequent purchase order management of complex static, rotating, or packaged equipment which may include Pumps, Compressors, Pressure Vessels, Dehydration Packages, Cooling Towers, Water Treatment, Adsorption Skids, Clarifiers, and similar.
- Proficient to undertake the design and analysis of equipment typical of those listed above.
- Reviewing customer technical requirements to prepare execution strategies, technical specification packages for enquiry/purchase, and undertaking technical evaluations and risk assessment of supplier proposals, coordinating the vital cross-functional input to support this.
- Coordination of workload to meet schedule, quality, and budget requirements together with timely reporting on status and progress for themselves and for members of their (international) team.
- Collaborating closely with other engineering functions and coordinating multi-functional reviews of supplier designs and documentation to facilitate the integration of purchased equipment into the overall plant design.
- Able to represent the Mechanical subject area in the preparation of hours and resource estimates, P&ID reviews, HAZOP, and model reviews.
- Undertaking witness inspections and acceptance testing of purchased equipment.
- Resolving customer or joint-venture partner comments.
- Providing technical support throughout construction and commissioning phases of projects retaining overall technical responsibility for equipment until successful handover.
- Willing to undertake international travel to equipment suppliers and site locations at appropriate times throughout the project delivery.

Requested:
- BSc or MSc Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related engineering field).
- Demonstrable experience in the specification, evaluation, and engineering of a range of equipment types in an EPC project environment.
- solid understanding of International Codes and experience with the Pressure Equipment Directive and CE/UKCA marking.
- Engineering software skills, examples include Compress, Aspen, HTRI, and ANSYS.
- A demonstrable understanding of multi-functional interfaces and overcoming the associated challenges in an EPC environment for process facilities.
- Experience leading or supervising other specialists both in the home office and overseas.
- Highly proficient in written and spoken communication and able to use a range of standard software such as MS Word and MS Excel to prepare technical documents and write technical reports.
