We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Design Supervisor specializing in Mechanical and Piping Design to lead and manage design teams on complex mining projects. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a strong understanding of mining operations and infrastructure. This role is based in Gauteng.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and supervise a team of mechanical and piping designers and drafters across multiple mining projects.
- Oversee the development of 3D models, detailed drawings, and design documentation using industry-standard CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Plant 3D, SmartPlant (SP3D).
- Ensure designs meet project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with project engineers, procurement, and construction teams to ensure design feasibility and constructability.
- Review and approve design deliverables, ensuring quality and accuracy.
- Manage design schedules, resource allocation, and workflow to meet project deadlines.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers and drafters.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and constructability assessments.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for equipment specifications and integration.
- Support cost estimation and material take-offs for mechanical and piping systems.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 12+ years of experience in mechanical and piping design, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Proven experience in the mining or heavy industrial sector.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling and design software (e.g., AutoCAD Plant 3D, SmartPlant (SP3D).
- Can function as administrator (DAS)
- Capable of both mechanical and piping design
- Strong knowledge of piping codes and standards (ASME, API, ISO).
