STRUCTURAL ENGINEER — Job Specification

Key Responsibilities:


Perform structural calculations, analysis, and design for steel and concrete structures.
Develop engineering deliverables including calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
Coordinate closely with civil, mechanical, piping, geotechnical, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions.
Review vendor data and ensure compliance with project specifications, standards, and design requirements.
Participate in design reviews, model reviews, and hazard identification/mitigation assessments.
Provide construction support through technical responses to RFIs, conducting site visits, and offering field engineering guidance.
Ensure compliance with international engineering codes and standards (SANS, ACI, AISC, Eurocode, etc.).
Apply value‑engineering principles to improve constructability, reduce cost, and enhance overall project delivery.
Support material take‑offs, construction cost estimating, and the assessment of design changes and their impacts.
Ensure all project records, calculations, drawings, and correspondence are properly stored, indexed, and maintained in accordance with project document control processes.
Organize and prioritize multiple engineering tasks and deadlines effectively while maintaining a high standard of technical accuracy.
May be required to travel to project sites or vendor locations as needed.
Participate in internal training programs and continuous learning opportunities to enhance technical and professional development.
Leverage Knowledge Management systems to capture and share engineering learnings, tools, and best practices.
Support junior engineers and contribute to the professional growth of engineering team members through mentoring and knowledge sharing.


Qualifications and Skills Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
5–10+ years of relevant structural engineering experience in industrial, mining, energy, petrochemical, or related sectors.
Proficiency with structural analysis and design software (e.g., STAAD, SAP2000, Robot, ETABS).
ECSA or equivalent professional registration (preferred).
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues, clients, contractors, and vendors.
Ability to interpret and apply local and international engineering codes, standards, and regulations.
Demonstrated technical competence in both steel and concrete design.
Ability to coordinate and collaborate within multidisciplinary engineering environments.
