An exciting opportunity has become available for a Substation / Overhead Line Engineer at a globally recognised leader in multi‑disciplinary engineering, project delivery, and construction within the Mining, Minerals, and Metals sector, based in Johannesburg. Key Responsibilities:
- Design HV/MV substation layouts, single-line diagrams and equipment configurations.
- Assist with overhead line route selection, basic structural and conductor layouts.
- Prepare discipline calculations, specifications and drawings.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards, grid codes and legislation.
- Interface with protection, civil, structural and other disciplines.
- Review vendor drawings and technical data.
- Compile material take-offs and procurement documentation.
- Provide site technical support during construction and installation.
- Assist with inspections, testing and commissioning activities.
- Maintain redline drawings and final handover documentation.
- Support schedule, quality and cost control within assigned scope.
- Engage professionally with clients during project execution under senior supervision.
- Participate in technical meetings and site visits with clients as required.
Qualifications and Skills Requirements:
- BEng or BSc (Eng) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in substation and/or overhead line projects.
- 5–10 years’ experience and exposure to High Voltage (HV) and Medium Voltage (MV) systems.
- Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
