SUMMARY:
The SQE is considered a "Performer", who has a reputation for professional competence and sound judgment. He/she must have the ability to operate independently, or in a team environment.
DUTIES:
• Develop suppliers in the areas of AAR compliance, Six Sigma methods, Value Stream mapping, 5S, Kanban and other tools for corrective/preventative action, and continuous improvement
• Perform Quality System, Process and Product audits on suppliers
• Work with suppliers to continuously improve performance, implement process controls, and develop inspection plans
• Perform capacity analysis to ensure work is properly planned for manufacture and delivery
• Review and approve PPAP’s from suppliers for submission to the Supplier Quality Review team
• Conduct in-depth review and follow-up on the implementation of supplier action plans for poor performance
• Lead corrective actions as required from supplier 8D’s or non-conformance reports
• Work with suppliers to develop standards and methods for inspection and testing of incoming and outgoing product
• Review of Suppliers Quality KPI’s and action plans for improving DPPM, on-time delivery, late supplier 8D responses, etc.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Engineering or a related field (Chemical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering). Equivalent experience can be substituted for education
• 5-7 years’ experience in fabrication, steel manufacturing, heavy truck, rail or other related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) preferred
• Good understanding and working experience with Statistical Process Control, Design of Experiments and Six Sigma problem solving methods
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as blue prints, safety rules, and AAR Recommended Practices.
• Ability to perform quality audits on suppliers to assure products and services meet client’s, American Association of Railroads (AAR), and regulatory standards
• Must have complete knowledge of APQP documents like PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans and Quality standard
• This position requires approximately 30% travel
