We are seeking a capable and motivated Process Engineer to support the delivery of mineral processing projects within an EPCM consulting environment. This role offers hands-on involvement across project studies, detailed design, and execution phases, working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team on large and technically interesting mining projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for a process engineer looking to deepen their EPCM experience, develop strong technical foundations, and contribute meaningfully to high-quality project delivery. The role is based in Johannesburg.
Job Summary:
- The Process Engineer will support the development and execution of process designs for mineral processing plants, contributing to engineering deliverables under the guidance of senior engineers and lead disciplines. The role requires strong technical fundamentals, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and with clients. Experience in zinc, gold or copper mineral processing projects is preferred.
Job Responsibilities:
- Deliver process engineering support across study, feasibility, and detailed design phases.
- Prepare and contribute to core process deliverables, including:
- Process Design Criteria (PDC).
- Process descriptions and design-based documentation.
- Mass balances.
- Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs).
- Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Equipment specifications and equipment lists.
- Line, valve, and instrument schedules.
- Interpret metallurgical test work and apply results to process design under guidance.
- Interface with internal disciplines (mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, and civil/structural) to support integrated plant design.
- Support participation in plot plan reviews, HAZOPs, operability studies, and safety reviews.
- Assist with equipment procurement activities, including technical bid evaluations and vendor document reviews.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, client requirements, and safety principles.
- Manage assigned tasks effectively, meet agreed deadlines, and report progress to lead engineers.
- Support site, commissioning, or client engagements as required.
Qualifications & Skill Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Process Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
- 5–10+ years’ experience in mineral processing plant design within an EPC or EPCM environment.
- Exposure to concentrators and mineral processing facilities.
- Familiarity with process engineering deliverables and design workflows.
- Ability to communicate clearly with team members, clients, and vendors.
- Strong analytical skills and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
- Experience on zinc, gold or copper Mineral Processing Projects.
- Professional engineer registration with ECSA.
